Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament Returns to Jamestown with New Venue

JAMESTOWN, NY – The highly anticipated Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament is set to return to Jamestown this August, with a fresh twist – a new location.

This year’s event will be spearheaded by Collaborative Children’s Solutions, in partnership with the City of Jamestown, and generously supported by sponsors including the Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union, the signature sponsor of Collaborative Children’s Solutions.

Originally slated to be held at Brooklyn Square, the 2024 tournament has been relocated to the parking lot of the Physical Education Complex at Jamestown Community College (JCC) on Curtis Street. The move was necessitated by construction timelines and the tournament’s size, making the new venue a more suitable choice.

“Jamestown Community College has once again proven to be an invaluable community partner in Western New York by offering their campus for the 2024 Gus Macker 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament,” said Patrick Smeraldo, president of Collaborative Children’s Solutions. “JCC understands the significant impact an event like this can have on our community. They immediately stepped up, assembled a team, and began guiding the Macker committee on how best to utilize the campus and surrounding areas.”

The relocation comes amidst two major construction projects in Brooklyn Square. The former Friendly’s Restaurant building was recently demolished to make way for a new, larger Tim Horton’s Restaurant. Additionally, the former Oriental Star restaurant will be replaced by a new Northwest Bank branch. The commencement of these projects would have impacted the availability of the area to host a large-scale basketball tournament.

“This period has been challenging, but after numerous site evaluations and meetings with City and JCC leadership, we’ve successfully turned a negative into a positive, offering a great opportunity for everyone involved,” Smeraldo added.
